Payload Recovery Parachutes

Aerostar designs and manufactures parachutes
for the recovery of scientific payloads from
high altitude balloon flights.

These parachutes are
designed to open quickly at altitudes
up to 150,000 feet and to recover
payload weights up to 8,000 pounds.

On a typical scientific balloon flight, the vent
of the parachute is attached to the base of the balloon. The payload hangs from the
risers of the open parachute.

At the end of the flight, squibbs
separate the parachute from
the base of the balloon
and the payload descends
to the ground.

Aerostar parachutes have
performed reliably on hundreds
of flights for NASA and other
space agencies around the world.

Aerostar also manufactures other types
of parachutes, such as the
G-12 Cargo Parachute,
for the military and other agencies.

If you want information on those types
of parachutes, please visit our
Military Products Parachutes
for more information.
