High Altitude Scientific Balloons

Near space exploration

Aerostar’s High Altitude Balloons have been used for over 70 years for near space exploration. Flying at altitudes in excess of 100,000 ft above the surface of the earth for days on end, scientists and other explorers are able to perform missions not possible below the troposphere.

The material used to construct our modern high altitude balloons, also known as zero pressure balloons, consists of plastic films with various laminates. The frail looking material is actually extremely robust and durable.

Performance charts are provided for our standard size zero pressure balloons. Please contact us if you do not see a size which fits your mission requirements.

Regulations

All balloon flights must be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations or the rules of the governing airspace regulatory body where the flights are to be conducted. Prior to purchase of a high altitude balloon, you will be asked for the appropriate documentation confirming compliance with said regulations.

If you require assistance with flight planning and operations for your high altitude balloon mission, Aerostar can also provide flight services.
